چکیده

This paper develops an adaptive model on asset pricing and wealth dynamic of a financial market with heterogeneous agents and examines the profitability of momentum and contrarian trading strategies. In order to characterize asset price, wealth dynamics and rational adaptiveness arising from the interaction of heterogeneous agents with CRRA utility, an adaptive discrete time equilibrium model in terms of return and wealth proportions (among heterogeneous representative agents) is established. Taking trend followers and contrarians as the main heterogeneous agents in the model, the profitability of momentum and contrarian trading strategies is analyzed. Our results show the capability of the model to characterize some of the existing evidence on many of anomalies observed in financial markets, including the profitability of momentum trading strategies over short time intervals and of contrarian trading strategies over long time intervals, rational adaptiveness of agents, overconfidence and underreaction, overreaction and herd behavior, excess volatility, and volatility clustering. Updating Wealth in an Asset Pricing Model with Heterogeneous Agents

We consider an asset-pricing model with wealth dynamics in a market populated by heterogeneous agents. By assuming that all agents belonging to the same group agree to share their wealth whenever an agent joins the group or leaves it , we develop an adaptive model which characterizes the evolution of wealth distribution when agents switch between different trading strategies. Two groups with he...

Complex dynamics in equilibrium asset pricing models with boundedly rational, heterogeneous agents

We study a simple model based upon the Lucas framework where heterogeneous agents behave rationally in a fully intertemporal setting but do not know other investors’ personal preferences, wealth or investment portfolios. As a consequence, agents initially do not know the equilibrium asset pricing function and must make guesses which they update via adaptive learning with constant gain. We demon...

Wealth Distribution in an Asset Pricing Model: the Role of the Switching Mechanism

We present an asset pricing model with heterogeneous agents trading in a Walrasian scenario. Fractions of agents are updated at any time and their wealth is updated not only as a consequence of portfolio growth of agents adopting the same strategy, but also due to the flow of new agents. After introducing the belief types, rational and chartists, the model is built to investigate the role of th...

On Financial Markets Where Only Buy-and-hold Trading Is Possible Constantinos Kardaras and Eckhard Platen

A financial market model where agents can only trade using realistic buyand-hold strategies is considered. Minimal assumptions are made on the nature of the asset-price process — in particular, the semimartingale property is not assumed. Via a natural assumption of limited opportunities for unlimited resulting wealth from trading, coined the No-Unbounded-Profit-with-Bounded-Risk (NUPBR) conditi...

On the Role of Memory in an Asset Pricing Model with Heterogeneous Beliefs

The paper discusses the role of memory in an asset pricing model with heterogeneous beliefs. In particular, we were interested in how memory in the fitness measure affects the stability of evolutionary adaptive systems and the survival of technical trading. In order to obtain an insight into this matter, two cases were analyzed: a two-type case of fundamentalists versus contrarians and a three-...
